This curriculum has 2 - 25 minute sessions highlighting personal and body safety. A primary focus at this early age is shifting the responsibility for child abuse prevention as much as possible away from the child and onto the adults in the children's lives. Facilitators use fun and engaging activities to teach children to establish safety boundaries by being able to identify which body parts are private and how to discern an unsafe situation. Children learn that it is the adult's responsibility to keep children safe and learn to identify safe adults.
Activities here reinforce the concepts learned. Letters are sent home to parents after each session regarding concepts that their children have learned in the Speak Up Be Safe program. These letters include information about child abuse and ways to keep children safe. Worksheets are also available to parents to complete at home with children.
